About the Opportunity
The current incumbent Director-General is soon to complete his maximum six year appointment in this position. As such the Agency is now accepting applications for a new Director-General to join their team in Honiara, in the Solomon Islands, on a full-time basis.
The Director-General (DG) serves as the leader of the FFA Secretariat and is responsible for its overall performance and management. Reporting to the Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC) and Forum Leaders, the DG is accountable for ensuring that the Agency fulfills its mission effectively and ensure the ongoing and future success of fisheries management and sector development to the long-term benefit of the membership.
As Director-General your role scope will include:
- Strategic leadership and management of the agency including leading the Executive Management team;
- Strategic organisational management and planning as embodied within the Strategic Plan, Statement of Intent, Annual Work Programme and Budget;
- Leading the Agency at FFC and other key fisheries meetings to ensure the effective advancement of key fisheries management issues; and
- Leading and overseeing donor and country liaison including negotation and acquisition of funding and members support for the Secretariat's work.
To be successful in this position you will have tertiary or post-graduate qualifications and/or demonstrated high-level expertise and experience in an area of fisheries or other relevant natural resource management, business management, law, government, international relations or another relevant discipline.
This position requires someone who has demonstrated strategic leadership and extensive management experience at the senior executive level in national or regional Government. You will have the proven ability to liaise with Government Ministers, high-level officials and senior private sector representatives and to advocate effectively on behalf of member interests.

About the Benefits
The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is offering the successful candidate a competitive remuneration starting from US$200,000 (subject to exchange rates) TAX FREE for citizens of most countries, commensurate with skills and experience.
You will also have superannuation paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or as an additional cash supplement. FFA reimburses all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and dependents. Insurance coverage is also provided for personal accident, life, medical & repatriation.
Education for dependent children will be reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (Conditions apply). If your dependent child is educated overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year.
Accommodation assistance is also available.
Additionally, relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara. Annual airfares back to your country of repatriation will be provided, and a repatriation allowance of 2 weeks’ base salary on return to home-base at the end of your contract. There is also a retention incentive of 21% of your base salary which will be paid on the completion of your three-year contract.
On top of all this, you will have access to 6 weeks of annual leave each year, giving you plenty of time to explore this stunning part of the world!
